Prue Leith, (Previous Chair of The School Food Trust said: ‘’School cooks are the unsung heroes – they are responsible for feeding millions of children every day and play a key role in the health and wellbeing of the future generation of adults. So I am delighted that GY5, Sussex Downs College and Uckfield Community College is leading the way in nurturing the school cooks of the future.’’
We developed 2 training kitchens in Hastings and Eastbourne, and a team of mobile tutors and assessors who delivered high quality teaching and assessment.
An exciting new venture for this partnership is the tailored and stream-lined delivery of workshops resulting in learners gaining a repertoire of nutritious and well-balanced, school- and child-friendly recipes as well as an NVQ L2 in Professional Cookery. Participation in these workshops is incentivised by the free, ongoing loan of a ‘School FEAST Box’ of kitchen equipment including pots, pans, utensils, colour-coded chopping boards and chef whites and caps branded with the School FEAST logo. Where possible, training will be fully or co-funded dependent on individual eligibility.
