Catering & Cleaning Tender: Belfast

Belfast Royal Acadmy

The Belfast Royal Academy is seeking a suitably qualified contractor to manage both the catering and cleaning services at the school from 1st July 2020.

Founded in 1785 it is the oldest school in the city. Originally situated near St. Anne’s Cathedral in what is now Academy Street, it was transferred to the Cliftonville Road in 1880, when the present building was erected.

The school is a co-educational day voluntary grammar school. The main school campus, based on the Cliftonville Road site, has approximately 1443 pupils and 150 staff. The Preparatory Department and Pre-Preparatory Department campus, (the Ben Madigan campus) based at 690 Antrim Road, Belfast, has approximately 145 pupils and 12 staff.

Catering: The provision of catering services is required at the Cliftonville Road campus during school term time only. It is not required for the Ben Madigan campus.

Food services are provided to the 6th Form Centre and the Academy also requires hospitality catering.

Cleaning: The cleaning service is required both for the main school campus and for the Ben Madigan campus.

The main school campus covers approximately 17,497 square metres of floor space which is spread over 13 buildings on the one site (although with the exclusion of the swimming pool areas and Crombie basement the area for which cleaning services are required amounts to 16,777 square metres). The Ben Madigan campus occupies approximately 1400 square metres of floor space for the Preparatory Department and 530 square metres for the Pre-Preparatory Department buildings.

The cleaning service at both sites also involves the provision of cleaning consumables to the school, which are charged based on actual usage, as well as the provision of a mat rental service.

It is our understanding that Service Provision Change (Protection of Employment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2006 will apply to the above contract.

Estimated annual turnover:

Cleaning: £175,000 (Including consumables)

Catering: £300,000 (Including hospitality)

Combined= £475,000

Contract Length: 3 years with an option to extend to a further 2.

Expressions of interest must be in by 20th November 2019.

Shortlisted contractors MUST be available for a site survey on 3rd December 2019.
